Fly fishing is an ancient form of angling, most renowned as a method for catching trout and salmon, but nowadays it is employed for a wide variety of species including bass, pike and carp, as well as many saltwater species. The preparatory process of fly tying and the intricate act of fly casting are something many people find amazingly enjoyable about fly fishing. It is a perfect combination of sports and leisure. Nothing is more relaxing and peaceful than a weekend spent fly fishing with family and friends. You can not only enjoy the rewarding experience of casting and catching but also unwind in some of the most beautiful and serene outdoor locations.
There are a lot of great places to fly fish in California throughout the year. This article featured a list of useful information from my research through dozens of related sites and reports.
California Free Fishing Day:
In 2009, the Golden state offers two free fishing days: July 4 and September 7. On those days people will be able to fish on all freshwater and ocean waters in California without purchasing a fishing license. While many fishing enthusiasts already support the local fisheries by purchasing a yearly or day license, this is a great hands-on opportunity for those who have never tried fly fishing or bait fishing. It is also a perfect time to check out some of the excellent fisheries in the Golden state.

1. McCloud River, Fall River, and Hat Creek in Burney, CA

2. Owens River, San Joaquin River, Hot Creek in Mammoth Lakes , CA
