This article will describe the best Scottish rivers which are open to the novice trout angler all the way through the experienced trout angler, by purchasing a season, weekly or day permit.

Here you will find waters where the trout fishing is predominantly natural i.e. Scottish rivers and lochs containing a wild, indigenous stock of game fish, including brown trout, sea trout.

Some of the best rivers in Scotland for trout fishing are the river Allan, Annan, Avon, Carron, Clyde, Nith and the Esk.

There is so much choice to fish for trout in Scotland.

The River Allan for example is a small river and works its way through Perthshire. The type of trout you will fish for here is sea trout as they migrate up the river as long as there has been a lot of rain.

The best time to catch them would be in May when they are near the top of the river. If you were interested in fishing this area you can buy a permit from the Dunblane post office.

The river Annan is one of the better rivers in southern Scotland for fishing for sea trout. The river flows for approximately 35 miles and there are many hotels and clubs that cater for trout anglers in this area.

Avon River has about 14miles that can be fished. On this river you would be looking at catching brown trout and for easy access to a permit you would venture to one of the fishing tackle shops in that area to arrange one.

The river Carron comes from the Carron valley reservoir. The reservoir itself is a trout fishery which I believe has a good reputation. This is only a small river but has a good stock of brown trout available and also some sea trout.

If you wanted to fish here you again go to the fishing tackle shops in the area to purchase a permit. The areas would be Falkirk and Stenhousemuir.

Now the Clyde is a river many anglers love to fish. It has miles of water controlled by various fishing clubs and if you were looking for trout, you would be best fishing the lower part of the river where you will find sea trout. For the permits you go to a tackle shop around the Clyde area to purchase them.

A river for constant catches would be the river Nith. It is an excellent resource for sea trout again, and anglers from novice to an experienced angler will do well there.

Again with the popularity of this river there are also a lot of hotels and clubs that you are able to stay at if you are going for a few days.

The last river I am going to mention is one of the best in southern Scotland. You will get a fantastic amount of sea trout in this river. The river also has many fisheries leading off the river too, which helps keep, levels stocked.

Again on offer in this area you have different types of fishing permits, day, weekly and seasonal permits to suit your needs.
