So You Need a Flat Screen TV Stand

If you are like me, you got that brand new flat screen tv home and realized that you did not have anything to put it on. So now it is time to go out and start looking at the different types of flat screen tv stands available. When you do this you will notice that there are a plethora of tv stands available, but only a few will catch your eye. However before you make that purchase there are some things that you need to take into consideration.

First you will want to decide whether you want to mount the flat screen tv on the wall or if you do want it on a tv stand. For the sake of starters, we are going to begin with flat screen tv stands. Upon that decision you will need to determine what size and weight limitations you will need to look at when determining the type of stand you want. Once you have those things decided its time to begin looking at the different types of flat screen tv stands. Essentially there are only a couple different types such as the standard rectangular tv stand, the corner tv stand and the more robust entertainment center.

Corner tv stands will allow you to save a little space over the standard rectangular sized flat screen tv stand as it fits into the corner of your room and does not protrude into the living area as much. However, you will be limited as to where you can put the stand as you have to stick to the corners. The standard flat screen tv stand will allow you to put it anywhere in the room essentially but it might stick out into the living area a little bit more.

The more robust entertainment centers are also a good option but definitely space consuming if you are looking for something to save space. Now they have entertainment centers that can adjust to the size of your flat screen tv so that you are not always going to have the same sized flat screen to put into it. Entertainment centers are also considerably more in cost as well but if you have the money and space these are definitely a nice addition to the home and can bring great enjoyment.

As mentioned at the beginning of this article you might also consider flat screen tv wall mounts as well, which will allow you to mount the flat screen tv onto the wall. This actually is the best space saving option, but there are things to consider when deciding if this is the option for you. You will need to determine if you have the “know how” to actually make this work or whether you need someone to come in and professionaly install the tv wall mounts. This can be tricky as you will want to hide your wiring in the wall so that they are not sticking out everywhere. Whatever route you decide to go you need to get to looking at the tv stands available now so that you can start enjoying that new flat screen tv right away.

Have you ever wondered where the tiki hut style of building comes from? Though the tiki hut bar is a relatively modern invention, its architecural roots can be traced back to ancient Hawaii. For centuries, traditional Hawaiian structures had thatched roofs made of pili grass. Often, a large fishing net covered the grass to keep it in place.

The most important building in ancient Hawaiian civilization was the home of the chief. The Hale Ali’i could be found on a hill, with a stone foundation to symbolize the chief’s high standing within the community. The interior of the hale ali’i was covered with leaves, and the floor with woven mats. Nearby, stood the Hale Papa’a, serving as a storage room, where the chief kept his most valuable possessions. In this home, the chief (or Ali’i) would hold meetings. Women and children could not enter this building.

The Hale Ali’i was not the only building to exemplify the ancient Hawaiian system of taboos, or kapu. In the Hale Mua, or men’s eating house, women and children were not allowed to enter or eat. Instead, women and children ate at the hale ‘aina, a separate building.

Many ancient Hawaiian structures held cultural importance. The Halau, or house of instruction, was a place of instruction, where young native Hawaiians learned the art of the hula and other aspects of Hawaiian culture. In the Hale Pahu, or drum house, drums and other instruments needed for hula dances were stored. In the Hale Ulana, or weaving house, women created mats, baskets, fans, and other items from dried leaves woven delicately together. Near the water, the Hale Wa’a, or canoe house, held canoes made from koa wood, or tropical mahogany. Closest to the shoreline, the Hale Lawai’a:, or fishing house, provided space for fishermen to prepare their gear and nets.

While the chief lived in the Hale Ali’i, other Hawaiians lived in a much more modest “Hale Noho.” In this house, extended family members slept in a specific order under one roof. The traditional beds used by Hawaiians consisted of dried grass and leaves spread on the earth Mats places over the grass completed the bed.

Besides these daily living spaces, the ancient Hawaiian village also had several temples, as the ancient Hawaiian culture and religion focused on honoring the gods. Various temples were built for the gods of war, peace, health, fishing, farming, or other attributes. The heiau, or temple, might range from a simple structure to an enclosed complex or open-air temple. Only chiefs and kahuna (priests) were allowed to enter most heiau. Today, there are still a few heaiu on the islands, including several on the Big Island of Hawaii. Carved figures, including the famous tiki, adorn each temple. The chiefs and kahuna draw divine power (or mana) from the temples.

If you visit Hawaii, making a trip to historic ruins is a must-see. Just a few of these structures still exist today, and visitors must be very cautious when visiting them. Though they have endured thousands of years, the structures themselves are quite fragile.

Your fly line can get dirty any number of ways. Just keeping it in its case on the reel in a warm car can be enough to make it need to be cleaned. We all accidentally drag our line through dirt, step on it, or find some other way to get it dirty. Things like sunscreen and bug repellent are also common contaminants. Follow these steps and you will have your line ready to go in no time. I have used these methods for some time with a variety of fly line brands with no adverse effects. Having said that, the reader is ultimately responsible for any consequences that might result from using this process. I have no way of knowing, for example, if your line might have come into contact with some chemical that when fly dressing is applied would cause the line to degrade. I have never heard of this happening.

1. Fill a Clean Bucket with Warm Water and a Mild Dish Detergent

This step is fairly self-explanatory.

2. Remove Line from Reel and Backing

Strip your fly line from the reel into the bucket of warm soapy water all the way back to the backing. This might be a good time to go ahead and strip your backing and re-reel it back on to make sure there are no tangles. You don’t want to learn that the hard way when you get a big fish on.

Leave the fly line in loose coils in the bucket and let it soak 30 minutes.

3. Clean Line

Slowly strip line out of bucket through a moist clean rag, grasping rag tightly enough to make line squeak as its pulled through. Check rag periodically, and when it gets too dirty, switch it for a clean one. Pulling out an arm’s length each time will help eliminate line memory.

4. Apply Dressing

Use a new clean rag and soak it in fly line dressing. You will repeat the process you used when you stripped the line out of the bucket with the dressing on the rag. Make certain to keep the rag with plenty of fly line dressing on it. Also, continue to strip arm lengths of line and again make sure to strip it onto a clean surface. If you happen to have a line winder, use this so you do not get your line dirty again.

You can use a fly line dressing that is marked for this purpose. Or, many of us have discovered that other products designed for use on plastics work equally well at a lesser cost. A couple that people use are Rain-X and Armor-All. Just make sure what you use is designed for use on plastics and preferably silicone based.

5. Re-Attach Fly Line

I typically use a nail knot to tie my backing to the line, but there are others you can use. Make sure to trip tag ends so that line is not getting tangles to long tags.

Your fly line will last a long time if you care for it. A rule of thumb is to clean your line every 5 trips. More or less might be necessary in your particular circumstances.
